He was born on June 12, 1938 in Marietta, OK. to Jason B and Alma Boggs Broyles. He received his education in Denison and retired from Union Pacific Railroad as a switchman. Leroy loved fishing, hunting and gardening. He enjoyed selling watermelons and canteloupe on Morton St. in Denison. He also had a passion for cattle and worked several years before he worked for the Railroad in the feed business. We forgot to mention the BBQ. Leroy was known far and wide for his great Bar-B-Que ribs and hams and when he fired up the pit, people lined up.

Leroy always had a smile for anyone he met. He was good to his Mother-in-law Lawasa Montgomery. I saw him with her and Lucy Clement at Patsy’s having lunch after they were unable to drive themselves. Good friend

I worked with Leroy for many years, on one job just the two of us for 4 yrs in Ft Worth, we met at the truck stop in Denton and ‘shared a ride’. 4 yrs you learn alot about someone. I knew his bird dogs names and all about nearly everything. He loved Rhydonia, saying he didn’t deserve her not only once, but twice! He said she stuck by him through thick and thin. He was proud of his daughter Leah, who had a strong personality, (she takes after me). Proud of Chad, the ‘educated Broyles’. (He takes after me) lol… And proud of Craig, the hard working, well rounded man. (he takes after me). We’re going to miss walking up to Leroy, seeing those squinted eyes behind those glasses, ear to ear grin with that ever present wad under his bottom lip, and being greeted with one of a dozen of his complimentary sayings, “Well look who crawled out of the gutter to come see me”! …

I have very fond memories of Leroy from the 7th and 8th grades at Lamar. He once loaned me his jacket and I found a plug of chewing tobacco in the pocket. Midge, the cafeteria lady, helped me cut a hole in it and pour hot sauce in and plug it up. Poor Leroy never lent me anything again. I really liked him and was sorry that our paths never crossed after we left Lamar. My sincere prayers are with Rhydonia.
