I’m sure I can speak for the entire class of 1964, of Denison High School, by saying we lost a wonderful former classmate in Gene! The last time I saw Gene, was at our 50th year class reunion, and knowing Gene was a Godly man, I called on him to give the invocation, to kick off our reunion! Gene, you will be truly missed by all your former classmates of Denison High School! Freddy Lessly

I have fond memories of brother Gene Short. He frequently led singing on Sunday night and one of his favorite songs was – “His Yoke Is Easy”…. The first verse says – “I’ve found my Lord and He is mine, He won me by His love; I’ll serve Him all my years of time, and dwell with Him above.” Gene loved the Lord. He rarely missed a church service. He made himself available in / around the church despite being so busy with many other responsibilities. I take great comfort that the song he loved to lead is now a reality for him. I will never forget playing softball with Gene. He played short-stop and he must have been 58 or so. I saw him make some great plays, moving easily to his left or right as necessary. He was not a HR hitter but he could hit to get on base. As I get older, I see so many faithful saints as they depart this life and go into eternity (Psalm 116:15). I am so glad I knew each and every one. I hope I can live a similar life to them… a similar life to Gene. Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it.. redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Prayers for the family that remains. Be faithful always! James
