June 25, 1943 - January 13, 2014

Sherman Jackie Marvin Newsom, 70, died at his residence in Sherman on Monday, January 13, 2014. He was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on June 25, 1943, the son of Marvin and Faye Carvens Newsom. He received his business degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Linda Hart and Jackie were married in Sherman, Texas on July 2, 1995. He served as an enforcement officer for the Texas State Comptroller's Office and was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Sherman; son, John Newsom of Arkansas; step-sons, Chad Carney of Collinsville, Texas and Brady Carney and his wife, Brandi of Muenster, Texas; brothers, Joe Newsom of Rowlett, Texas, Bill Newsom and Bob Newsom both of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; sister, Charlotte Newsom Johnson of Magazine, Arkansas; grandchildren, Casen and Adysen Carney of Muenster, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Reese Newsom. Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date in Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home in Denison.
