I am so thankful for the warmth and richness Margaret added to the lives of all of us who knew her, and like all those others, am feeling a big, sad, empty space in my heart right now. Thank you Margaret, for having been a part of our lives, and condolences to family, friends and co-workers. Judy Cook, M.D.

Wow, Margaret, what can I say? I never thought you would leave us so soon in life. We still had so many things to do!! You have taught me SO much in life… you’ve taught me to be a better friend, a better social worker, and a better person. I’ve truly learned a lot from you. The way you took care of others and cared for others often left me speechless. Your undying devotion to Skip and to the mentally ill patients, day after day, is something so rare these days. You have an awesome family and they love you SO very much, as do all of your friends and co-workers. You will always be a part of me, without you I feel an emptiness. Frank summed it up so beautifully this week, he said, “Margaret is dying with dignity and grace”. I have never seen such strength and beauty as I have seen these past several weeks. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life and your death. Till we meet again my friend….I love you and I know you are watching over me. Tell Skip and my Dad hello;-) Love Always.

Certain people come into our lives that seem to be a gift from God and that is what Margaret was for me. During my employment at BHC, I learned more from her on how to care for the mentally ill than any other employee. She trained and advised me on all aspects. She also offered her support and help when needed. Over the last 12 years she became a special friend. Margaret possessed a gift that is rare in most people, honesty. She told you what you needed to hear and not always what you wanted to hear. I can’t count the number of times she has called to check on me when I was ill, or just down. She had that special discernment about knowing when you needed someone. She has always been there, not only for me but many, many others. During the last weeks of her illness she presented us with another lesson and that was how to handle illness and die with dignity. This is a lesson all could benefit from. Last week I told someone as I looked at my garden, Margaret reminded me of a sunflower. It has strong roots with a hardy stalk. When the sunflower bloom opens to reveal what is inside, it presents with a large brightly colored flower that overlooks and outshines all of the other flowers, pointing straight toward the sun. I will miss you my friend so much, the person who knew me better than I knew myself. I will miss our phone conversations and laughing with you, however I will see u again some day. I pray for your family during this difficult time that God will provide peace and comfort.

July 28th 2013 Dear Margaret, This is most difficult for me. Not more than a few days ago, Laura and I went to see you at TMC. I learned your father (P.F.C. Manning) was wounded in battle in WW2. For his courage and valor; he received the Bronze Star, Silver Star, and Purple Heart. After meeting you and your family and hearing about your mom and dad; I couldn’t be more HONORED than to have known you for the past 5 years.. I saw how much guidance and encouragement you gave Laura. You were truly her best friend. We both love and miss you. I was privileged to be involved with your memorial music and photo power-point. You picked out the music and photos. I hope it does you justice. You are one of a kind… and it was my best honor to have you in my life. Love-You- Margaret (my Hero)… frank king

Oh Margaret, can’t believe your gone..I knew and worked with Margaret back before she became a psych-tech..one thing never changed..you always knew where you stood with Margaret..she was the most blunt and honest person I’ve had the privilege to know..she managed her unit like no other..and she know what was going on in that hospital…BHC has lost a wonderful asset, but more importantly, we’ve lost a special friend..I’ll miss you Margaret…MH.

Loved Margaret and knew from day one she was a straight shooter. We first meet in 1997 and I immediately knew I was going to love this honest blunt woman. There are few words of comfort one can give during this time of loss, but know many loved & will miss Margaret. “God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be so he wrapped his arms around her and whispered come with me. With tearful eyes we watched her and saw her fade away, although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.” Rest in Peace Margaret.

I worked with Margaret at the BHC for a time. She was always so open, funny, and caring. She was a joy to work. Her attitude was positive yet realistic. I really enjoyed getting to know Margaret. I knew if I was assigned to her unit that day it was going to be a good day for me. I’m sorry the world has lost Margaret, but I know she is in the best place of all. My thoughts and prayers are with her family in that they may find peace as well.

I believe that Heaven is filled with ALL the things we loved on earth. God promised that he went to prepare a place for those that believe in Him. Our hearts are filled with grief but we also know we will see you again one day in a place that God has prepared for us.
