Martha Morene DeFer

June 24, 1936 - February 9, 2018

CALERA, OK Martha Morene DeFer, 81, died Friday, February 09, 2018 at Beacon Hill Nursing Home in Denison. Martha was born in Denison, Texas on June 24, 1936, the daughter of Wesley and Foye Sampson Fulce. She was a 1954 graduate of Denison High School. Martha and Kenneth DeFer were married in Denison in 1960. He preceded her in death in February of 1994. Martha was an amazing and accomplished woman. She worked for Levi Strauss, then opened her own upholstery shop for 40 years. She sewed dresses for orphaned girls and one year made more than 2000 for them. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Colbert, OK. Johnson-Moore Funeral Home in Denison will be open on Sunday from Noon – 5 p.m. for viewing and paying your respects. The family with be at Martha’s home in Calera for friends to visit on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Colbert. Reverend Roy Vinson will officiate. Burial will follow in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert. Martha is survived by her son, Russell Sweeney and his wife, Sonja of Pottsboro; daughters, Kala McDaniel and her husband, Jack of Oklahoma City, OK and Kenda Stuart and her husband, Jerry of Longview, TX; brother, Eugene Fulce and his wife, Linda of Denison; sisters, Gladys Helm and her husband, Benton (Hi), Juanita Swindell and Sylvia Batts and her husband, Robert. Martha was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Marsha Jima Reddick and brother, T.O. Fulce. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.
