Michael C Clark

May 14, 1935 - July 31, 2015

Pottsboro Mike Clark, 80, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 at Texoma Medical Center. Michael Champ Clark was born to James B. (Champ) and Ethel Manning Clark on May 14, 1935, in a modest house built by his father in the oil fields of Smackover, Arkansas. He was destined to become a 3rd generation oil field professional. Mike grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas, graduated from WFSH in 1953 and attended the University of Texas at Austin where he studied geology. He worked summers in the oil field and had a very successful career as a "Drilling Contractor and Oil Man" in Oklahoma and Texas. Later he began acquiring and producing his own oil and gas wells. Mike started an oil and gas consulting company working for many clients. He became an expert in drilling and completing conventional oil and gas wells. In his later years he continued his career drilling and completing horizontal unconventional wells in Texas and West Virginia. Mike and his dad, Champ, had a knack for knowing and seeing down-hole. He loved to discuss and talk about the oil-patch. Mike loved life and had a wonderful sense of humor, joking with family and friends. He was a great outdoorsman with a love of hunting, fishing, boating on Lake Texoma and golfing. He also had a passion for yachts, fast boats and cars. He grew up working on and building cars and hotrods, and playing baseball--a personality full of fun and laughter until his death. Mike loved to go to his grandson, Dalton's baseball games in Pottsboro. He was baptized at an early age in the First Baptist Church. Mike is survived by his daughters, Traci Owens of Pottsboro, Rebecca Watts of Kansas and Debra Webb of Colorado; brother, Ron Clark of Dallas and his grandchildren, Jenni, Brandon, Anna and Dalton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mark Clark. Per his wishes, he was cremated and no services are planned. The family requests memorials in his name be made to Preston Volunteer Emergency Services, P.O. Box 518, Pottsboro, TX 75076. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home. Condolences may be registered to : johnsonmoorefuneralhome.net.
